Kefee’s Corpse Arrives Nigeria

Six days after the demise of famous Nigerian singer, Kefee, her corpse has finally arrived Nigeria from the United States where she gave up the ghost.

According to reports, the remains of the late singer arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos via a Delta Airline aircraft on Tuesday, 17 June, 2014, ahead of her burial expected to hold later this month.

It was gathered that Kefee's body was received by a few members of her family when it arrived Nigeria at 4pm.

However, it was unconfirmed if Teddy Don-Momoh, husband of the late singer came into the country with the corpse.

Teddy was by with his late wife in the US before she passed away.

It could be recalled that Kefee died on Friday, June 13 2014, after being in a coma for 15 days.

A statement released by her UK manager informed that the singer died as a result of lungs failure and denied rumours that she was carrying a six months pregnancy.

Meanwhile, a celebration of life and memorial service is scheduled to hold on Thursday in California in memory of the late Kefee.
It could be recalled that the late singer’s ex-husband Alec Godwin stated  that  he’s yet to come to terms with her death some days ago.

"Is there any concrete confirmation? I’m still hoping it’s not true", Godwin reportedly told a reporter over the phone.

Alec’s marriage to Kefee collapsed in 2008.

Alec and Kefee met in 1999 at a local church in Warri, and years later Alec signed Kefee to his record label, which housed other acts like his sister Estee and Edo-born singer Rhymzo.

The couple ended their three-year marriage in 2008 after protracted marital problems.

What Bishop Oyedepo Said About Boko Haram

The General Overseer, Living Faith Church Worldwide, a.k.a. Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedopo, has decried the incessant attack by the violent Islamic sect.

According to the cleric, the onslaught of Boko Haram in Nigeria was beyond politics and the incessant attacks had taken a toll on Nigeria.

PUNCH reports that Oyedepo made this remark during his visit to the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, at the Government House in Owerri.

His visit is coming on the heels of the discovery of two explosives at a branch of the Living Faith church in Owerri on Saturday by the Imo state police.

Oyedepo expressed gratitude to the governor for the quick intervention made to avert the IEDs from exploding and causing major disaster.

The cleric therefore called for government at all levels to join in the fight against terrorism to ensure a peaceful and united Nigeria, adding that prompt action by government at every level was needed to check the menace of terrorism plaguing the nation.

He however, prayed for God to give Nigerian leaders the wisdom to tackle the insecurity challenges in the nation and also intervene in the fight against terrorism.

In his response, Gov. Okorocha thanked Oyedepo for his visit and assured that government would not relent in its efforts to ensure the security of lives and property of residents in the state.

Two deadly improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were discovered by the Imo state police yesterday at the Living Faith church but they were detonated by the anti-bomb squad deployed to the church thereby averting an explosion that would have killed many.

Recall that in May, Oyedepo had said that for Nigeria to wipe out Boko Haram, the country’s leadership needed to have character, courage and capacity, not just to identify the main causes of the problems but also to be able to deal with them.

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS SPAIN CRASH OUT

Spain's defence of their World Cup title has come to a dramatic end before a week of the tournament is out.

Needing at least a point to keep any hope of progressing beyond the group stage alive, Spain crumbled to a 2-0 loss against an impressive Chile side. Two first half goals did the damage.

Cesar Azpilicueta started at right-back for the world and European champions and completed the 90 minutes. Fernando Torres replaced Diego Costa with a little under half an hour remaining, while Cesc Fabregas remained an unused substitute.

After losing their first game 5-1 to the Netherlands, and having seen the Dutch beat Australia earlier in the day, the Spanish knew that at the very least they required a point but that realistically all three were necessary.

Not long after Xabi Alonso had a close-range shot saved Chile took the lead.

It was Alonso that had the ball pinched off him in midfield and as Chile swept forward Charles Aranguiz cleverly teed up Eduardo Vargas who rounded Iker Casillas and slotted home. Nineteen minutes had been played.

Costa then set up Alonso at the other end but the Real Madrid midfielder thrashed over. Costa had a chance of his own but volleyed wide with his left foot and by the interval Spain trailed by two.

Casillas could only punch an Alexis Sanchez free-kick back into danger where Aranguiz took a touch and prodded the ball in high.

Spain improved after the interval, during which Koke replaced Alonso. Costa had a first real clear sight of goal but his shot was blocked, and then the striker acrobatically hooked the ball back across the six-yard box where Sergio Busquets contrived to volley wide with the goal at his mercy.

Torres replaced Costa on 63 minutes as Vicente Del Bosque sought to freshen up his attack but against the hard-working Chileans they could not find a breakthrough. In fact, it was the South Americans who came closest to netting the game's third goal, Mauricio Isla firing over the bar on the slide.

So, for the second consecutive World Cup, the holders exit at the group stage, Italy having done likewise in 2010. For Spain, so dominant on the international stage since 2008, this felt like the end of a very special era.

They will have nothing but pride to play for when they take on Australia in Curitiba on Monday.

Fraudulent Promo: Court grants Etisalat more time

The plaintiff said he spent almost all his savings to earn 10 million points in an Etisalat promo promising N500, 000 daily only.

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday granted a telecommunication service provider – Etisalat Nigeria- an extension of time to regularise processes in a suit filed against it over alleged fraudulent promos.

Justice Mohammed Yunusa, had in his ruling on the motion filed by the defendant (Etisalat), granted the prayers of the defence counsel, Jero Daniels.

The plaintiff, Pascal Ozioko, had in July, 2012, filed the suit seeking court’s order to compel Etisalat to publish the names of winners of the promos in the national dailies.

He also wants the court to award him N100 million as damages against the defendant for misrepresentation and loss suffered.

Etisalat, had in the lottery, planned to give out N500, 000 daily to participants.

Mr. Ozioko joined the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, NLRC, in the suit as the second defendant.

When the case came up for mention on Wednesday, counsel to Etisalat informed the court of a pending motion seeking an extension of time to regularise processes before it.

But counsel to the plaintiff, Chukwudi Nneke, expressed dissatisfaction with the frequent setbacks the suit had suffered.

Mr. Nneke, however, conceded to the prayers of the defendant for extension of time on the grounds that the defendant would pay N20, 000 as cost for “undue delay’’ of the suit.

Etisalat had entered its defence in the suit at the last adjournment on May 23.

It prayed the court to deem its processes as duly filed and served which was granted by the judge.

In the suit, the plaintiff is claiming the sum of N100 million against Etisalat as damages for allegedly misleading its subscribers in the lottery.

In his statement of claims, the plaintiff averred that in November 2011, he received several SMS from Etisalat advertising a lottery.

“Etisalat advertised to its subscribers that Range Rover jeeps were to be won monthly and a daily cash prize of N500, 000 if subscribers answered daily questions sent to them.

“Each text was to cost N100 and each correct answer attracted points to the subscriber to qualify him for the prize,” Mr. Ozioko said.

He said that Etisalat promised that subscribers with the highest points would win the prizes.

The plaintiff averred that he spent almost all his savings sending answers to the questions which eventually earned him 10 million points for which he received an SMS from Etisalat congratulating him for obtaining the highest point.

“That was all I received from the defendant. I wrote on several occasions to the headquarters of the company at Plot19, Zone L, Banana Island, Ikoyi, to verify the authenticity of their promises, but all to no avail.”

The judge adjourned the case to September 18.
