Meet Medusa, The World’s Longest Snake (PHOTOS)

A reticulated python has slithered into a place where few snakes have gone: Guinness World Records.

She’s named Medusa and the 25-foot-long, two-inch, 350-pounder has been confirmed as the longest snake ever in captivity in the Guinness World Records 2013 edition.

The 8 years old reptile is on display at The Edge Of Hell, a haunted attraction based in Kansas City. Mo., and spends her days helping to scare up business by scaring customers who are already afraid of snakes — not just gigantic ones.

Medusa’s handler Larry Edgar says, “We try to keep Medusa well-fed and slightly out of reach as there have been instances with Reticulated Pythons where they’ve had to cut people out of them!
“We never underestimate that she does always have the upper-hand.”

So far, Medusa does pretty well on a diet that includes rabbits, hogs and deer, served to her every two weeks.

Medusa inherits the title from the previous record holder, Fluffy, another Reticulated Python from Ohio’s Columbus Zoo, who measured in at 24 feet long.

UPDATE: South Africa FA Rules Out Keshi Claims

                                                 * SAFA president, Danny Jordan

Contrary to speculations making rounds that Super Eagles' coach, Stephen Keshi is destined to dump Nigeria and join South Africa after the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the South Africa Football Association, SAFA, on Monday, 23 June, 2014 dismissed claims that Keshi would take over as Bafana Bafana coach.

Prior to the Mundial, media houses in Nigeria had reported that the former Nigerian captain, who is now the head coach of the Eagles, had already signed a two-year contract and would take over as Bafana coach in July.

Speaking on the rumour on Monday, spokesman of SAFA, Dominic Chimhavi, said: "Safa has never released a list of candidates that are on the short-list for the Bafana Bafana job.

"Keshi's name is part of a list of names bandied about by the media. The list was created by the media and the reports coming out of Nigeria are total fabrication."

Chimhavi added: "There is no truth to those reports.

"When the president of Safa, Mr Danny Jordaan, announced that Gordon Igesund's contract would not be extended, he made it clear that the new coach will be announced in July, following the conclusion of the World Cup."

Last week, social media websites Twitter and Facebook were abuzz with reaction to the news that Iran coach Carlos Queiroz was about to sign a contract with SAFA.

The South African FA denied reports that Queiroz was on his way back to South Africa, having already taken charge of Bafana in 2000.

The vacant Bafana post has seen more that its fair share of speculation since Igesund was told his contract had come to an end and he would not take the national team into the qualifying campaign for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, starting in September.

Keshi and Queiroz remain favourites to get the nod, though SAFA has repeatedly said the "favourites" tag had been created and maintained by the media and not by any of its officials.

Nigerian coach Keshi has not come out to deny or confirm the speculation saying his focus is to continue to work with the Nigerian team.

The Super Eagles are currently campaigning in the world cup in Brazil where they have won one match against Bosnia Herzegovina and drew Iran to place second in their group behind Argentina.

Nigeria will play the South Americans on Wednesday in a match they cannot afford to lose if they want to qualify for the round of 16.

REVEALED: Mother Who Spends N553,217 On Fake Babies

                                              * Wendy Archer and one of her fake babies

40-year-old mother, Wendy Archer, has reportedly spent £2,000, about N553,218, on fake children because of her obsession for baby after she was sterilised.

Metro reports that anytime the Middlesbrough mum-of-four wakes up in the morning she gets her real kids ready for school, before waking up her plastic babies and changing their nappies.

It was gathered that Wendy spends hours every day dressing, bathing and shopping for her four fake children and recently splashed out on a brand new crib, car seat and moses baskets.

"I just love babies – to me they aren’t dolls, they are my babies.

"They are beautiful and I truly love them. I couldn’t be without them now and they even smell like real babies," said the single mum.

According to the report, after Wendy gave birth to her four children, Kirsty, Nathan, 22, Keenan, 15 and Kia, 13, she decided to be sterilised.

But it was a decision she regretted and said she felt ‘a great sense of loss’.

So she bought four dolls from Shelley’s Reborn Dolls – Johnson, Elisha, Shyan and Thomas.

Commenting on her decision to get the fake babies, Wendy said: "I know some people might think I’m mad but so many of my friends have been amazed by how happy the dolls can make people.

‘When you cuddle them, they feel like a baby, because their heads lull and they even smell like a real baby, because of the fabric softener their clothes are washed in. It is truly amazing."

We can only hope the babies give Wendy the happiness she craves. Or what do you think about this?

Policeman Land In Court For Allegedly Stealing Walkie-Talkies

A policeman, Saidu Muhammed, has been arraigned in Katsina, northern Nigeria for allegedly stealing and selling 1,074 walkie-talkies entrusted in his care.

According to a report published by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the accused officer is the Communications Officer of the Katsina State Police Command and was arraigned at a Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 June, 2014.

The report stated that Mr. Muhammed, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, is charged with “breach of trust by servant.”

It was gathered that the police prosecutor, Okolo Usman, told the court that the command entrusted 1,500 walkie-talkies in the care of Muhammed in his capacity as O/C Communications on July 8, 2013.

And when the command conducted a stock of the items, it was discovered that only 426 walkie-talkies remained.

Usman said the officer confessed during investigation that he stole and sold 1,074 pieces to one Mr Chucks in Abuja at the cost of N1,500 each.

However, Muhammed pleaded not guilty to the charge  brought against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nuradeen El-Ladan, before adjourning the case to 10 July, 2014, for further hearing, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in like sum.

El-ladan said each surety must possess a landed property within GRA in Katsina and must be indigenes of the state.

2015: I Have Almost Convinced Buhari To Join 2015 Race – El-Rufai

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has come out and said that there is nothing wrong in having a Muslim/Muslim ticket in the next presidential election.

He blamed President Jonathan for the backlash over the Muslim/Muslim ticket rumour and said it had happened many times before in Nigeria with no uproar from the masses.

He was speaking to “Face the Nation,” broadcast on Rockcity 101.9 FM, Abeokuta, yesterday.

Excerpts: People are waiting for the first major test for the APC, the presidential primaries in particular. Permutations are on about who will get it and all sort. What should Nigeria expect?

Look, the APC is just conducting it congress to select its leader for its state and national offices. All these speculations about candidates are neither here nor there. It is a design by the PDP to distract us. The first time this story of Tinubu and Buhari thing came out was in THISDAY newspaper, which is known to be sympathetic to the PDP and Jonathan government. So, I will like to appeal to people to stop believing all this rumours. The truth is that today, there is no one in the APC that has declared for any office. Okay? General Buhari has not said he is running. Asiwaju Tinubu has not said he is running. None of the other names being mentioned has said he is running for any office in 2015. It is all PDP-driven speculations to distract us and create crisis in the party.

As far as I am concerned, I want to see two people, one for presidency and another for vice presidency that would move Nigeria forward. If they are both Christians or Muslims or Buddhist, Hindus or Jews, I don’t care how they worship God. I believe in one God. I worship God in my own way. I don’t ask other people to worship God the way I worship God. I think religion is a private matter; it has nothing to do with one’s performance in public office.

Once upon a time, specifically from 1979, in the South-west, Alhaji Lateef Jakande was governor of Lagos Sate, his deputy was Alhaji Jafojo. Both of them were Muslims. In Oyo State. there was Governor Bola Ige. His deputy was S.M Afolabi and both of them were Christians. It was the same story all over the South-west. In Sokoto State, it was a Muslim-Muslim ticket and so also was in Kaduna State, even with its high Christian population, no one raised any eye-brow then but today, the situation is different. How did we get to this point?

I can even give you more examples. Throughout the years of the civil war, Gen. Gowon, the head of state, was a Christian and his deputy, Akinwale Wey, was a Christian; nobody noticed. In the administration of Gen. Buhari, Buhari and Idiagbon, his deputy, were both Muslims; nobody commented. In 1979, Chief Obafemi Awolowo picked his running mate, Chief Phillip Umeadi from the South-east; both were Christians and nobody complained. In 1993, Chief Moshood Abiola picked Alaji Babagana Kingibe, another Muslim-Muslim ticket, and that’s the ticket that actually won the election. So, if you ask me where and how Nigeria got to this point, I will blame it pure and square on Goodluck Jonathan. It is Goodluck Jonathan more than anybody.

But Goodluck Jonathan has only ruled this country for about four years?

Yes, he started it! He started using religion, as an instrument of political division. It is in the Goodluck Jonathan administration that the president of Nigeria goes to churches and makes policy announcements. He is the only president of Nigeria that goes to religious gatherings and makes public policy announcements. It is deliberate and they are spending a lot of money in churches to bring division, to give the impression that PDP is the party for Christians, with the hope that he can buy Muslim political leaders in the North and they have a large amount of money to do that. All this religious divisions are contrived for political gains and it is unfortunate that leaders who have responsibility to protect and project the constitution are doing this, as a matter of deliberate tactics.

We have documents; we have proofs to show that. That is the strategy of Jonathan’s administration

You are known to be very close to Gen. Buhari. Please, tell us: Is he contesting for the APC primaries for 2015 presidential race?

I am almost one hundred per cent certain that Gen. Buhari will contest the next election but it is up to the APC members to make that decision. I am one of those who have spent the last few years, trying to convince him, asking him to contest again and I think I have almost convinced him. My hope is that he will throw his hat in the ring as soon as possible. You know he is my candidate and I have not hidden that from anyone.
